Perry is born July 25, 1968 in Chicago In Illinois, she was the child of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first TV roles included two episodes on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mother. However, her parents did not allow her to act until she reached the age of adulthood due to the negative effects that stress could be able to have on their daughter. Perry claimed that she was too nervous to be an actor during high school, but started performing at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry left for New York, where she landed small roles in series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Home sickiness caused Perry her back home California and theater roles were readily available.
